Soap News: Sweeney gives birth, Caffeine free GH, Greenlee getting killed off AMC? GL’s big kiss, Vanessa Marcil news and tomorrow is a dark day in daytime history.

Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS and Biggest Loser host) gave birth to a daughter late last Monday, January 12th. Sweeney and her husband Dave named their second child, Megan Hope Sanov…and no, not after Hope Williams Brady, Sweeney insists that her baby is named after her mother and grandmother. Read all about little Megan’s arrival on Sweeney’s blog.

— Online buzz has Anna Stuart reprising her role as Mary Greenlee Smyth on All My Children. Stuart, best known as Another World‘s Donna Love, is said to be returning to the show until her on-screen daughter, Greenlee (Rebecca Budig) fakes her death later this year.

— Sad news, General Hospital will be dropping Claire Coffee (Nadine) to recurring status as of February 8th. Coffee originated the role of quirky nurse Nadine in late 2007 and has been keeping Dark Prince Nikolas busy since he his lost the sainted Emily last year. As upset as this makes me, I’m hoping that this will mean that Natalia Livingston (ex-Emily, now-Rebecca) will end up being a very-much-alive but brainwashed-Cassadine-style Emily and not this new character Rebecca. Coffee is okay with the downgrade, here’s what she had to say on her official message board:

“Hi Everyone!
It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by…
I sort of figured this was coming, but wanted to be absolutely certain until I relayed the news.
I have been taken off contract, effective February 8. It’s a mutual decision; I completely understand the stresses of the producers and writers and the Nadine storyline seemed to coming to a close. I won’t be exploding in a ball of hospital flames, but you probably won’t see me much around the hospital, either. Tough times in the economy, Port Charles included! Jill Phelps has been incredibly supportive and I have nothing but respect and reverence for my time at GH. Thank YOU ALL for your support.

Signing off,
Claire”

— Woah, so Guiding Light decided to do a lesbian story after all? On the January 19th episode, Olivia (Crystal Chappell) and Natalia (Jessica Leccia) locked lips. Check it out here.

— More bad news for GH fans…Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda, GH; ex-Sam, Las Vegas; ex-Gina, Beverly Hills 90210) has landed a multi-episode arc on CBS’s  Without A Trace where her character, a social worker, will be a love interest to Eric Close‘s character, agent Martin. Marcil will first air on Without A Trace this March…looks like that’s when I’ll start watching.

— Tomorrow’s episode of Days Of Our Lives will see the exit of John and Marlena. The couple that survived mistaken identities, a missing baby, multiple faked deaths, an exorcism, crazy Kristen/Susan, the DiMera’s, the Salem Stalker and Sami Brady could not survive the economic crisis.
