Ugly Betty cancelled

So, ABC just went ahead and cancelled Ugly Betty yesterday. Not only that, but they cut this season’s episode order down from 22 to 20. Damn them. Damn them straight to hell! What do you expect when you move a show to Friday night death slot? Sure, they moved it to Wednesdays, but it only aired there for 2 weeks so far.

The early cancellation will allow the writers to wrap the show up neatly. I’m still not over this, ABC! It’s not like they have another hour-long hit at the moment! Also, why would they pull the plug at 85 episodes? It’s just 15 away from the 100-episode syndication goal.

The president of ABC, Steve McPherson and Ugly Betty’s executive producer Silvio Horta released a joint statement regarding the cancellation:

“We’ve mutually come to the decision to make this ‘Ugly Betty’s’ final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”
