Soap News: Daytime Emmy Noms and more

The nominations for the 2011 Daytime Emmy Awards were announced this morning. You can check out all the soap nominations here, along with my picks. The award show will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on Sunday, June 19 at 8 p.m. on CBS with Wayne Brady hosting.

* I’d go with Lexi since this was for 2010, but Emily’s performance during Jana’s last couple of weeks recently was brilliant.

General Hospital also received a nomination in the “Outstanding Promotional Announcement – Episodic” category for the “Brenda’s Back” promo. Meanwhile, ABC daytime was also nominated for “New Approaches” for their “What If…” crossover web series along with The Bold and the Beautiful’s “Clarence Update.” Popular web soaps, Gotham and Venice were nominated for “Outstanding Special Class Short Format Daytime.” Former As the World Turns star Martha Byrne (ex-Lily/Rose) stars in and produces Gotham while Crystal Chappell (Carly, DAYS; ex-Olivia, Guiding Light) stars in and produces Venice.

The Young and the RestlessBilly Miller may not be leaving this August after all.  According to Soap Opera Digest, contract talks between Miller and Sony are still ongoing. Let’s hope they strike a deal! If they don’t, it’s rumored that Sony may get Jacob Young (JR, AMC; ex-Lucky, GH; ex-Rick, B&B) to takeover.

TV Guide is reporting that Constance Towers will return to General Hospital during the week of June 27. In other words, Aiden’s paternity won’t be revealed until the end of June!

Tyler Christopher’s last tape date as GH’s Nikolas is May 19th.

Cady McClain began taping at All My Children yesterday and her first airdate has already been announced. It’s NEXT week! Dixie returns on May 17th.

Roger Howarth returns to One Life to Live this Friday, May 13th.

— Canadians Y&R fans can check out Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren) on The Shopping Channel this Saturday as the actress showcases her jewelry line.
