Former All My Children star Rebecca Budig (“The Real Greenlee”) is returning to daytime. General Hospital’s executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati announced Tuesday (Feb. 10) that the actress would be joining the soap in a new “killer” role.

“I’ve always loved GH and I love Frank, so it’s really exciting to get to go over there and play,” said Budig about her new “spitfire” role to Soap Opera Digest. The magazine reports that the actress reports to set the last week of February, slating her debut towards the end of March.

Budig’s soap career began on Guiding Light where she played the role of Michelle Bauer from 1995 until 1998. In 1999 she began her most famous role, as spoiled rich-girl Greenlee Smythe on All My Children which garnered her a strong fan following, two Daytime Emmy Award nominations and her supercouple pairing with Josh Duhamel’s Leo DuPres. Budge first left AMC in 2005 but returned to the soap in January 2008, where she stayed for a year and later returned once again when AMC relocated to Los Angeles from New York in December 2009 and stayed until the final “televised” episode aired on ABC in September 2011.

Since AMC’s cancellation, Budig has co-hosted the syndicated American lifestyle series, Better. It’s quite another casting coup for the ABC daytime series, having recently acquired former The Young and the Restless stars Emme Rylan (Lulu; ex-Abby, Y&R; ex-Lizzie, GL), Maura West (Ava; ex-Diane, Y&R; ex-Carly, ATWT), Michelle Stafford (Nina; ex-Phyllis, Y&R) and Billy Miller (Jason; ex-Billy, Y&R; ex-Richie, AMC).

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and Citytv.
