Empire returns for its sophomore season this Wednesday (September 22) and picks up three months following Lucious’ (Terrence Howard) shocking arrest. Even though he’s in prison, Lucious is still in power with Jamal (Jussie Smollett), out of all his kids, assisting him from the outside.

Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) joins forces with her and Lucious’ other two children, Hakeem (Bryshere Gray) and Andre (Trai Bryers), Andre’s wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) and boo boo kitty, Anika (Grace Gealey), to take control from Lucious by convincing business savvy Mimi Whitman (guest star Marisa Tomei) to invest with them.

Look out for Chris Rock to appear as Frank Gathers, the gangster who Cookie testified against in order to get out of jail in the series premiere. Rock’s character is pretty vicious and has a certain taste for blood.

The second season of Empire has its “world premiere” at 8 p.m. on City TV in Canada and at 9 p.m. on Fox in the U.S.
