Looks like The CW is getting back in the primetime soap business. The now-superhero-centered network is looking to reboot ‘80s classic primetime soap Dynasty.

The Aaron Spelling series originally ran on ABC from 1981 to 1989 and focused on the wealthy Carrington family and starred John Forsythe, Linda Evans and Joan Collins as oil magnate Blake, his new wife Krystel and former wife Alexis. The series would also star Pamela Sue Martin, Heather Locklear, Diahann Carroll, Emma Sams and Ted McGinley. The series competed against CBS’ Dallas and spun off The Colbys from 1985 to 1987. A famous cliffhanger included the “Moldavian Massacre” in its fifth season finale.

Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will helm the new series along with original series creators Esther and Richard Shapiro. The pilot will be written by Schwartz and Savage along with Revenge writer/producer Sallie Patrick.

While The CW previously aired continuations of 90210 and Melrose Place. The new Dynasty will be a direct reboot but will put a “new spin” on the series by making the Krystle character a Hispanic woman, according to Deadline. A continuation of Dallas aired for three seasons on TNT (and Bravo in Canada) from 2012 until 2014.
