Netflix will stream the upcoming Dynasty reboot beginning Thursday, October 12, 2017, in selected countries outside of the U.S. — including Canada and the U.K. Once the series wraps its first season on The CW, it will be made available on Netflix in the U.S.
Dynasty follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and the children. The original primetime soap ran on ABC from 1981 to 1989 and was produced by Aaron Spelling. There was also a reunion TV movie in ’91. The show’s original creators, Richard and Esther Shapiro, are attached as producers of the modernized reboot. The series is developed by Josh Schwartz (The O.C.), Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) and Sallie Patrick.
As with the ‘80s version, Dynasty will begin with heiress Fallon Carrington (Victorious’ Elizabeth Gillies) unhappy to find out that her billionaire father Blake (Melrose Place’s Grant Show) is engaged to an employee named Cristal (Unreal’s Nathalie Kelley) — who won’t only be her new stepmother, but her boss. Also set to star are James Mackay (The Tomorrow People) as Steven Carrington, Alan Dale (The O.C.) as Joseph Anders, Sam Adegoke (Switched at Birth) as Jeff Colby, Robert Christopher Riley (Hit the Floor) as Michael Culhane and Rafael de La Fuenta (Empire) as Sammy Jo. Revenge’s Nick Wechsler will recur as Matthew Blaisdel, while General Hospital’s Brianna Brown will appear as Claudia Blaisdel.
Old school fans, who should play Alexis Carrington (originally played by Joan Collins) when the time comes? In addition to Collins, the original Dynasty featured John Forsyth (Blake), Linda Evans (Krystle), Pamela Sue Martin & Emma Samms (Fallon), Al Corley & Jack Coleman (Steven), Heather Locklear (Sammy Jo) and Diahann Carroll (Dominique).
Dynasty will premiere on Wednesday, October 11, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Canadians can watch their CW feed if available or wait until episodes become available to stream on Netflix each Thursday beginning October 12.
