What to Watch: Remedy

remedy

This week’s What to Watch picks will be presented a little differently. Rather than just narrowing down the top five picks, we’ll take a closer look at either a new or returning series since the Winter Olympics are finally over and there’s some fresh new TV coming our way.

By now you’ve probably had the promo songs stuck in your head. Global’s been using the catchy “Pompeii” by Bastille and “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic for Remedy. The Canadian medical/family drama stars Papa Mars himself, Enrico Colantoni as Dr. Allen Conner, the chief of staff at Bethune General Hospital. MVP and Nikita’s Dillon Casey appears as Allen’s son, Griffin, a med school dropout/general screw up who has returned home after spending a couple of years on a beach in Thailand. The Vampire DiariesSara Canning plays Allen’s daughter, Melissa, a surgeon, while Sarah Allen (Being Human and Little Mosque on the Prairie)appears as Sandy, an ICU nurse.

Rounding out the rest of the cast are Genelle Williams (currently recurring on another great Canadian series, Bitten), Matt Ward (TRON: Legacy) and former MuchMoreMusic VJ Diego Fuentes.

Tonight’s series premiere (airing at 9 p.m.), follows Griffin as he’s forced to return to Bethune GH in an ambulance following a stabbing at a strip club, reuniting him with his father and sisters. Meanwhile, Sandy causes a staff member to get accidentally pricked by a dirty needle, which was used on a dying teenage gang member. The show will rope you in with the complicated family drama but will also maintain your interest in the show’s upstairs/downstairs approach, as well as the dirty needle storyline.

Sure, you’ll be wondering what the implications of Dr. Allen’s children all working at the same hospital have, but the facility’s lawyer, Robert Farina (played by Saving Hope’s Salvatore Antonio) will point that out as well.

Remedy airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Global.
