24: Live Another Day delivers ratings, NBC and Fox announce some pickups and more

— The ratings are in for 24: Live Another Day. The event series’ premiered delivered 8 million viewers in the U.S. on Fox – down 29% from the finale airing in 2010, but still pretty impressive since broadcast ratings have eroded. Over in Canada, it scored over 1.5 million viewers on Global.

— You should check out HuffPost’s “24 Things You Might Not Know About 24,” it’s solid.

— Fresh off  from ordering Gotham to series on Monday, Fox has also ordered hip hop soap Empire from Lee Daniels, Brian Grazer and Danny Strong – yes, Jonathan from Buffy the Vampire Slayer! (He’s also directing the J.D. Salinger biopic.) Also coming up at Fox next season is Red Band Society from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV which will star Octavia Spencer and Dave Annable. The dark comedy will explore the daily life of a bunch of teens living in a hospital.

— NBC has also ordered a bunch of series (even one with Katherine Heigl, LOL), but the one you should get excited about is Marry Me which comes from Happy Endings creator David Caspe and will star Casey Wilson (Happy Endings + Caspe’s real-life fiancée) and Ken Marino!

— In other good TV news, while it doesn’t have a premiere date as of yet, Fox has ordered 10 additional episodes of Mulaney, bringing the former Saturday Night Live scribe’s (and Best Week Ever contributor) first season episode order to 16.

— Looks like The Amazing Race Canada may be going international! [via The Huffington Post]

— Lisa Turtle, err Lark Voorhies, emerged from wherever over the weekend and had the misfortune of wearing the “wrong makeup.” Check her out at the Daily Mail.

Lisa Kudrow’s The Comeback will return with six episodes this fall on HBO. The cult fav lasted only one season in 2005. Last night also marked the 10 year anniversary since the Friends finale. Here’s a look back at Buzzfeed’s unforgettable moments.
