This week, Canadians will finally get the second season of Based on a True Story (Monday on W Network), Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell’s new comedy film You’re Cordially Invited (Thursday on Prime Video), the new Disney+ series Paradise, and a doc celebrating 50 years of musical performances on Saturday Night Live.
Based on a True Story
The second season of Based on a True Story finally premieres in Canada this Monday, Jan. 27 at 9 p.m. on W Network with new parents Ava (Kaley Cuoco) and Nathan (Chris Messina) three months into parenthood.
Ava, focused on taking care of her family, is determined to resist her true crime obsession and return to work as a realtor while Nathan continues training his private tennis clients. A series of new murders pulls them back – is Matt (Tom Bateman) behind the new slayings? Melissa Fumero (One Life to Live, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) joins that cast as Ava’s new friend, Drew.
The Peacock series premiered its second season in the U.S. late last year. Canadians can stream the first season on STACKTV.
Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music
The celebration of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary continues with a three-hour special featuring the untold stories behind the culture-defining and groundbreaking musical performances, sketches and cameos. Directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Oz Rodriguez, Ladies & Gentlemen… 50 Years of SNL Music will feature interviews with musical artists, cast, writers, and more.
The special airs this Monday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. on NBC. Global will air the special on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m., at which point it’ll also stream on the Global TV app and STACKTV.
Saturday Night
Jason Reitman’s Saturday Night began streaming on Crave in Canada this past Saturday, Jan. 25 and follows the true story about what happened behind the scenes in the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live on October 11, 1975.
Saturday Night premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this past September.
Paradise
Starring James Marsden, Sterling K. Brown, and Julianne Nicholson, Paradise is set in a serene community inhabited by some of the world’s most prominent individuals but this tranquility explores when a shocking murder occurs and a high-stakes investigation unfolds.
Paradise premieres this Tuesday, Jan. 28 with three episodes on Disney+ in Canada.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man
A new Spidey series follows a young Peter Parker on his way to becoming the hero we all know and love, but with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the hero’s comic book roots.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premieres this Wednesday, Jan. 29 on Disney+ in Canada with two episodes.
You’re Cordially Invited
When two weddings are accidentally booked on the same day at the same venue, each bridal party is challenged with preserving their family’s special moment while making the most of the unanticipated tight quarters. In a hilarious battle of determination and grit, the father of the bride (Will Ferrell) and sister of the other bride (Reese Witherspoon) chaotically go head-to-head as they stop at nothing to uphold an unforgettable celebration for their loved ones.
You’re Cordially Invited premieres this Thursday, Jan. 30 on Prime Video in Canada. The film also stars Geraldine Viswanathan and Meredith Hagner.

Desperate to return to his family, Mo (Mo Amer) juggles asylum troubles and side hustles as his relationship with Maria (Teresa Ruiz) is threatened by an unruly rival in the second season of Mo, which premieres this Thursday, Jan. 30 on Netflix in Canada.
Gladiator II
In case you missed it, Gladiator II began streaming on Paramount+ in Canada on Jan. 21.
From legendary director Ridley Scott, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome.
