Alison Sweeney announced during an Instagram Live on Monday (April 17) that she’s returning to Days of our Lives as Sami Brady!
The actress played the iconic soap role for 21 years, beginning in 1993, before leaving in early 2015. Sweeney returned to the soap that November for the show’s 50th anniversary.
When asked about a potential return to the sudser last summer, Sweeney told The TV Watercooler that she has learned to “never say never” and that “for now my attention is focused on making great romcom movies, writing novels and attending to my other projects, as well as time with my family,” looks like DAYS was finally able to work with Sweeney’s schedule for a return!
Sweeney dished to Soap Opera Digest that she’s happy to work in an “extended visit” to Salem and will be filming at the Sony-produced NBC/Global soap in May and June. Those episodes will likely air this fall.
Sami Brady’s return to Salem will be penned by the soap’s new head writer Ron Carlivati, whose material will finally hit screens this July.
Canadian Days of our Lives fans can catch Alison Sweeney in the latest instalment of the “Murder, She Baked” film series as Murder, She Baked: Just Desserts will premiere on Sunday, April 30 at 7 p.m. ET on Bravo. In the fifth Hallmark mystery (which aired last month in the U.S.), Hannah (Sweeney) is thrilled when she is chosen as a guest for the first Eden Lake Dessert Bake-Off, but when fellow judge, Coach Boyd Watson is found murdered, Hannah once again takes it upon herself the find the killer. The TV movie is penned by soap scribe Melissa Salmons (Days of our Lives, One Life to Live, The Young and the Restless, As the World Turns, Another World) while Cameron Mathison (All My Children) is back as Sweeney’s co-star.
